Stone post for tethering horses. Shanxi or Shaanxi province, 18th-19th century. The post is topped by a well carved lion whereby one leg is carved open so a rope can be attached. There’s a hole cut through one of the corners of the post for the same purpose. Both holes are well worn by use. Old stone posts like this one are very scarce nowadays as it is no longer allowed to export them from China. Of the curls two are damaged, one at both sides of the lion’s head Dim.: WxDxH 19x19x128cm
