A sandstone kang stone, used to close the oven's firing gate. Shanxi province, Gaoping or Changzhi county, 18th or 19th century. The frontside is decorated with a primitively rendered deer, the backside with a star. As a group these kang stones are a typical expression of folk art and this one -in all it’s simpleness- is a perfect example. Dim.: WxDxH 32x8x33cm.
