A strip of silk with a repeating motif of peonies and scrolling leaves. Dim.: WxL 30 x 75 cm. No selvage left. Period early Qing. For reference-piece see: Collection of the Palace Museum of the Forbidden City, vol. 50, nr. 123 (Kangxi). The peonies and leaves are not patterned by the weft but left open by it, which creates a wonderfull illusion of dept. This uncommon technique, the deep blue colour and the baroque shape of leaves and flowers make Kangxi period (1661-1722) most likely as a date. Mounted on blue cotton on foam board (36x78cm). 1.475 euro
