Fragment of a kossu (slit tapestry) court robe with gold weaving. Fine drawing and detail, dating from the end of the 18th century. Dragon, clouds, bats and auspicious symbols on a blue ground. Shape and cutting suggest it has been the front or back upper part of the robe. There are some condition issues as kossu is a vulnerable technique that easily desintegrates. Some losses and loose parts. Much of the gold has flaked off. Yet in it's kind and period a fine fragment with good colouring, contrast and detail. Dim.: LxH 92 x 36 cm. Mounted on cotton on foamboard.
