Two strips of brocaded silk featuring silvery lotus flowers on a dark blue ground. Late Ming, probably Wanli period ca.1600. Dim.:75x19cm and 68x17,5cm. Mounted together on blue cotton on foam-board (80x45cm). In general good condition with good width and contrast. There are areas that show some wear to the brocading but not disturbing. The smaller one of the two strips has darkened towards the top end. It appears it has been exposed to a smokey environment, probably in a Tibetan temple. There's a collection of sutra covers in the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art with similar motif, all dated 16th century.
