A sandstone kang stone, used to close the oven's firing gate. Shanxi province, Gaoping or Changzhi county, 18th C. One side is decorated with a rabbit, the backside is plain. The base is decorated as if it were a table; cabriole legs in the corners, the typical undulating apron between them. This is an early detail that puts the stone without doubt in the 18th C. Some damage to corners and edges from use. Dim.: WxDxH 38x12x31cm.
