Two-door cabinet with two drawers inside, Shanxi province, Linfen county, middle / second half 18th century. Frontside black lacquer over a layer of clay. On the doors a painting of playing children. The sides are finished with a dark layer of clay-lacquer that is largely intact. The inside is finished with an orange layer of clay-lacquer. Original hardware. Part of the apron between the front legs is replaced. Despite cracks and damages to the lacquer it is a complete and original specimen in it’s kind. Cabinets from this period are often problematic due to the bad lacquer-techniques and unstable underlayers commonly used. Waxed. Dim.: WxDxH 111x54x203cm
