A large size Cizhou jar from a Shanxi kiln. The lustrous copper-brown coloured decoration is very typical. It is identical to a Jiajing marked one in a private collection. This one is probably from the same period. The four characters on the shoulder can be translated as "the beginning of spring”. There's a tiny repaired chip at the rim. Further in fine condition. No cracks, repairs or repainted areas. Height 67cm, diameter 41cm.
