DIV18 -A rare armoured horse with rider from the Northern Qi period. The Northern Qi dynasty only covered a very short period between 550 and 577 AD which explains for the relative rarity of it's artefacts compared to other styles and periods. Horse and rider are rendered with good detail and much of the original cold paint has been preserved. At the back of the horse there's a small hole, probably made for holding a flag or banner. With the banner the rider could well be an officer leading his troops in battle. Although there are no visible restorations it can't be ruled out that there have been repairs to vulnerable parts like the legs of the horse or the base. Height 32 cm.
